Beta Testers Wanted for new version of GlobalFX

At this point it looks like I have something that I am ready to release to a select group of testers.  I feel pretty good in how it works but I need help squashing any bugs I may have missed.

What I am looking for are testers that are willing to run this on a system (not their production system) and play around with the interface.  They should be willing to report back any findings in the interface or program that does not work properly.

I am not looking at adding any features at this point but will look at adding them in a future test.

This will not break your system as all it does is write to the config files specifically for the program.

I would prefer it if the tester was already using a previous version of the program as well.  However I will also share it with new users.

Please email me at knockz@djknockz.com if you are interested in testing.

Coming Soon: New Version of GlobalFX

I know recently Serato has added the sample player to their program however I am not a fan of it.  I only have the SL1 and the samples only play through the same channels as the music.  I also don’t like the fact that I am limited to just 6 slots.

I have been working on an updated version of GlobalFX which a number of people are still using.  This new version will include a number of suggestions from people that have sent me emails since the last version.

The new features include:

  • Profiles - You can save and load profiles with your settings.  This will allow you to have 1 profile for your radio show, 1 for your live events and 1 for your mix cd's easily.  And you can quickly switch.
  • Jingle Player - assign 1 key to play jingles and select the jingle you want from the list and change easily.  Hard to explain but once you see it you will get the idea.  You won't have to assign them to a hotkey.
  • You can select the default output device in case you have more than one soundcard.
  • You can set the default system volume so it will put it back.
  • Actions - you will be able to assign a hot key to an "action" such as bringing the console to the front and sending it to the back, stop all samples from playing, or play a jingle.  In the future I may add more.

Because I have changed a lot of things internally in this version I expect some bugs to be found.  Hopefully I can iron them out and get a version 1.0 out there with the help of the people.

Look out for the announcement in the next coming weeks.

PS.  If any graphics designers want to design a new logo/icon for it based on the same concept of the current icon it would be appreciated.  Unfortunately I am not the greatest graphics designer.

GlobalFX

**UPDATE**

New version coming soon.

**UPDATE**

Current Version: 0.8.3.1

Download Link: GlobalFX

I'm pleased to share this small program with everyone that will hopefully fill a void in their DJ setup.

GlobalFX is a sample playing program. This program will let you to assign hot keys to sound FX and allow you to trigger these samples whenever you press the hot key. The program will sit in the background or system tray so it will not interfere with any foreground programs running such as Serato ScratchLive. I mainly wrote it to use with ScratchLive but should work with other programs as well. Sound is played through the default sound card.

Requirements:

GlobalFX currently runs on XP SP2 or Vista. It uses the Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 and this will be installed from the net by the installer if it is not installed. (64bit OS's are not supported.)

We have also confirmed that this also runs on German and Russian keyboards. I do not see many problems on other keyboards as you assign the keys by pressing them.

Installation/Setup:

Extract the archive and run the 'setup.exe'. If you don't have the Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 installed (more than likely you don't) it will install it. You will need to run a cable from the line out of your computer sound card to a channel on the mixer that you will use. Once installed it will create a shortcut on your desktop and in your start menu.

How to use it:

After you load it you basically select ADD and start adding your WAV or MP3 files. You can adjust the volume it will play back at by default and the key combination. You also have the option to add some basic effects to the samples.

Uninstall:

Go to your control panel and remove it through the Add/Remove programs.

Known Issues:

None at this moment that I know of. However who knows what I missed. Feel free to send me any bugs you find via email at knockz@djknockz.com.

Disclaimer:

I am not a programmer but managed to put this together. It does nothing destructive to your system. Other than the .NET installation it installs all its files to the "C:\program files\globalfx" folder and only modifies the INI file sitting in that folder when run. With this being said, still be careful. I'm not responsible for anything it may do to your computer. Please test it heavily at home before taking it out for a live trial. If anything goes wrong please shoot me a PM or reply to the thread and hopefully I will be able to figure it out. Use at your own risk.

Future Releases:

I am nearing the final version 1.0 of this product and am hoping to stamp out any bugs. I do not plan on adding any more features at this time other than a configuration screen for the sample effects. But I would rather focus on fixing any bugs for now.
