News: Rihanna says some Bajans still Hat Her

Bajan singing sensation Rihanna feels "hated" by more than a few Barbadians!

And she has told this to the world via a popular entertainment magazine, stressing that despite her efforts to highlight this country in her music videos and interviews, many Barbadians still reacted negatively to her.

In an interview last Saturday with Entertainment Weekly magazine, when asked if fellow Bajans were happy for her, she stated that "a lot of them hate me but a lot of them love me".

She added: "They always have something to say about what I'm wearing . . . . If I wear a swimsuit to the beach, it's a problem, they put it on the front of the newspaper and call into programmes."

The 19-year-old Def Jam recording artist, also told the magazine that it annoyed her when people whom she tried to represent constantly said negative things about her. "I didn't have to put tridents in my videos!" she told Entertainment Weekly. "I didn't have to even mention that I'm from Barbados. But I do and people kind of take it for granted. They hate me. They talk . . . about me all the time. But I'm like, whatever. I'm still doing this 'cause I love to do it and you're not going to stop me," she added.

And now, as they reach age 17, the eight-member band that copped the coveted Band Of The Year title at this year's Barbados Music Awards is making the point with an album entitled Fireproof – filled with uptempo songs that are already heating up the airwaves for Crop-Over.

Lead singer and Entertainer Of The Year Edwin Yearwood said the album represented the trials they had faced to reach this point.

"There are trials and tribulations we have gone through that people don't even know about, but the people are enjoying our music, and that's what's important. We went through the fire, came out and have stood the test of time.

"We've always been there with the people and not above the people," he added, noting that the six tunes dropped on local stations recently were designed to appeal to people across varying
