News: Bunji vs Benjai

When upcoming soca artiste Benjai left top Soca band Asylum, people wondered whether he would be able to survive. However, they had little time to wonder as he quickly aligned himself for Machel and Xtatik, while as a solo artiste he quickly released a number of hits including Amnesty featuring Machel.

Despite Benjai’s indication in the local press that there were no hard feelings when he left the band, Bunji soon released Best Friend, which many believe was about Benjai. This weekend the lyrical battle took another turn. While on stage performing at the Base Nightclub in New York over the weekend, Benjai added ‘his two cents’.

Benjai sang about Bunji always singing about being in the ghetto but he is never seen there. He also went on to sing Bunji’s song on the Immediate riddim - Right Now, saying that even though they warring he would still sing Bunji’s song. This received a very favourable response from the small crowd in attendance.

News: Snoop Dogg Permanently Banned From UK

Rapper Snoop Dogg has been permanently banned from entering the United Kingdom, after a brawl in London's Heathrow airport in April.

Snoop Dogg and an entourage of almost 30 people were en route from Los Angeles to Johannesburg, South Africa, to perform at a major festival.

The rapper and other men became upset when they were denied entry into British Airways' first-class lounge.

A huge brawl ensued and seven officers suffered minor injuries.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that the Home Office banned Snoop from the country because of his previous criminal record in the United States.

Snoop had already been banned from flying with British Airways and police in the UK had issued him a caution over the incident.

Offenders do have the chance to be admitted under special circumstances, but sources said they do not apply to Snoop, who could lose millions in performance and appearance fees.

News: Gash Dem and Lite Dem stirring up problems

Deejay Chuck Fender says he will not amend the lyrics to his controversial song Gash Dem an Lite Dem.

The DJ met with members of the Broadcasting Commission on Tuesday in an effort to defend the song, and see if the ban, implemented last month by local radio stations, could be lifted.

However, Rachael Crooks, monitoring and customer service manager at the Commission, who was among those present at the meeting, maintains that, "the Commission, first and foremost, does not ban songs neither do we recommend that a song be banned, but there is a Children's Code for programming and the licensees are required to abide by the code, so songs inciting violence should not be aired during prime time. The only reason why this is an issue is because a member of the public made a complaint about it (Gash Dem An Lite Dem) and we are investigating it."

Fender says other radio stations are also planning to join in the ban, but this may not happen if the offending line is amended.

News: We Are Moving!

In the following week I will be changing servers. Its going to cost too much to keep hosting the site on our current server and I will have to move it over. Our new server will have more than enough bandwidth.

If in the next few days you have trouble accessing the site, be patient. Its probably just going through a transition.

Once the new server is setup we'll be ready to go with some expansions. I've been wanting to introduce podcasts so everyone out there with their iPod's can sync some mixes.

News: Chuck Fender's 'Gash Dem and Light Dem' Banned

ZIP FM and IRIE FM have banned Chuck Fender's uptempo hit, 'Gash Dem' on recommendations made by the Broadcasting Commission. According to electronic mass media regulations in Jamaica, the commission itself does not ban any specific recordings or programmes, but they can make recommendations, and it appears that both IRIE and ZIP concur with their assessment of the song.

It is unclear whether other stations will follow suit.

News: D'Angel Not Slowing Down

Despite being three months pregnent Dancehall singer D’Angel will continue to perform until her due date after getting the ok from her doctor.

D'Angel will continue to perform on stage shows publicly for the next few months, after getting the go-ahead from her paediatrician.
The dancehall singer who is three months pregnant said the doctors said that she should take it easy as with any woman having her first child, but that she can continue to work.
She performed at Richie Pooh's 13th anniversary show in Miami, Florida last week where Beenie Man and Sizzla were the headline acts.

The child, which will be D'Angel's first and Beenie Man's seventh, is due some time in October. D'Angel intends to buck a trend which has often hobbled the careers of female deejays once they get pregnant in Jamaica where they are sometimes unfairly discriminated against by male producers and promoters.
D’Angel has said soon after the birth of the baby, she will be right back, and will not be taking an extended break.
