News: Sizzla to leave Def Jam?
Sizzla Kalonji may be bidding Island Def Jam Music Group adieu because he is not pleased with the promotion and marketing push of his latest album.
Sizzla Kalonji may be leaving the Island Def Jam Music Group because he is not pleased with the promotion and marketing push of the album he has been working on for the past few months.
Sizzla had not been officially signed to Def Jam, but was reportedly shopping for a deal with the big record label after big wigs at the label had expressed interest in his sensational sound.
The Island Def Jam Music Group is an umbrella company for labels such as Island Def Jam, Def Jam Recordings, The INC Records, Roadrunner Records, among others.
Last year talks had surfaced that Sizzla was on the verge of inking a deal with the giant United States-based recording label, which has under its umbrella artistes such as Beanie Sigel, Memphis Bleek, Redman, DMX, Ludacris.
But the buzz seems to have died down after the early success of his track with Rapper Foxy Brown, 'Come Fly With Me' which became a hit on the 'mix tape' circuit in the United States market.
News: Jay-Z's New Album Rumours
So, Kanye said what he said at Illinois State (that Jay-Z was going to have an album out this year). Now, I am hearing, like we’ve all been hearing, that Jay-Z already has several songs recorded. The alleged name of this album is supposed to be called 8th Wonder, but I can’t fully verify that. Sources also say that Jay-Z maybe be dropping next year, not this year. Some chatter suggests Jay continuously teases the Def Jam staff by playing his new joints in the office, but nobody gets a copy. Maybe first quarter of 07?
News: Release the Tapes
ARTISTES, INCLUDING DYCR, have expressed their concerns about sex tapes that were allegedly found in the home of Ambassador Peter King after his death. The 'sex tapes', which are said to feature men performing homosexual acts, have become a major source of interest for the public. However, what has become a public phenomenon also has implications for local entertainers. It has been rumoured that some local entertainers have starring roles and have made cameo appearances.
Some of the artistes with whom THE STAR spoke have expressed disappointment that such an accusation is being made against members of the entertainment fraternity. According to them the 'sex tape' scandal reflects negatively on the entire entertainment fraternity and what they stand for.
"As one within the whole music fraternity, is not really a good sound dat, yuh don't know who is who, it hard fi one come out an portray seh dem a gallis an end up pon di tape, wi nuh rate dat an that's why wi a seh leggo di tape," DYCR said.
