News: 'No way Aidonia coulda dis Scatta'

IT WAS RECENTLY rumoured that there was a fall-out between producer Cordell 'Scatta' Burrell and Aidonia, one of the leading artistes in his camp, and that Aidonia had signed a management contract with another agency.

However, according to Scatta, the rumours are untrue and it was all a big misunderstanding.

"A jus misunderstanding, up to now I don't really know, mi jus hear seh news reach back to di artiste and it took a while fi me an di artiste fi really come together an talk it out, is jus a lack of communication," Scatta said.

According to Scatta, what further added to the confusion was that "other agencies in between that time were approaching him (Aidonia), but everyting is okay, nutt'n nuh change. Inna everyting yuh haffi have damage control," he said.

Scatta said he was happy that the misunderstanding took place during this early stage rather than later down the line after the big money has been invested.

News: Look out! D Vybe is taking Hold!

Somebody say ting for d road …The words seem to be hanging from the lips of Soca listeners everywhere this Carnival season.

Funnily enough, it's been hanging around in the mind of the tune's writer, Patrick "Mista Vybe" Gordon, for over a year

" A friend of mine in St. Lucia plays with a very popular band there and he sent me a message to check out a video tape of his band backing an artist from St. Lucia called Ninja Kat. In the middle of his performance he did this ad-lib that went 'Ting, ting, ta-ting-ting-ting...' the exact beginning of 'Ting 4 D Road'. As soon as I heard that the basic idea for the song came to me and I told my friend from the band in St. Lucia 'tell Ninja Kat I said thanks for the tune!' After that I spent a while finding a way to use the word 'ting' in a witty manner to keep the song fun. It occurred to me that in addition to the fact that 'ting' was what Trinis use as the sound of the iron in a rhythm section and also that we use the phrase 'and ting' a lot. So I just combined it all together to make one big carnival song. Then I went to the producer Julian "Julio" Nelson and he saw where I wanted the music to go and took it there for me," explained the multi-faceted performer.

Mista Vybe has a good outlook for the year.

News: 50 Cent Sued Over "In Da Club"

50 Cent has been hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit over his hit single "In Da Club," claiming the lyrics to the song were lifted from an earlier recording by Luther Campbell. Attorney Joseph Weinberger, owner of Lil' Joe Records, filed the lawsuit in Miami federal court, claiming 50's famous "Go shorty, it's your birthday" lines were actually lifted from Campbell's song "It's Your Birthday," originally released on Campbell's 1994 album "Still a Freak for Life." Weinberger once represented Campbell and obtained the copyrights to albums by the 2 Live Crew and Luke as a solo artist after Campbell was forced into bankruptcy. "In Da Club" was one of the biggest hits on 50 Cent's blockbuster major label debt,"Get Rich or Die Tryin'." Weinberger is represented by Miami based attorney Richard Wolfe.

News: East Fest ends with a Crash

RED LABEL Wine East Fest 2006 ended in the crash and splinter of a barrage of bottles thrown at the stage, as well as the sound booth in the middle of the bulk of the huge audience, at 6:20 a.m. on Saturday.

The bottles came at the announcement that Bounty Killer would not be performing at the Goodyear Oval, Springfield, St. Thomas, that morning. Anticipation for his appearance had been high, as earlier when Morgan Heritage were wrapping up their performance with How Come there were shouts as they named some of who were to come, using the term 'up next' to refer to all who were to follow. Included in the 'up next' were Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley, Assassin and Turbulence, for whom the audience cheered. They ended the list by saying "We have waited too long to bring this brother back to East Fest. Bounty Killer is up next."

The audience roared.

However, after Elephant Man had ended a 17-minute showing of snatches of song with 'Willy Bounce', with only one major performer named in the 'up next' to perform, MC Richie B made the bottle-bringing announcement. "As an MC and a promoter you face certain challenges. It is my duty to inform you that Bounty Killer will not be performing. He was here earlier and had to catch a flight," he said.
