Producer Roach must be counting his lucky stars. His debut project the Siren rhythm on the Time Travel label seems to have taken off like a rocket. Featured on the Siren rhythm are Emergency and Ambulance both recorded by Vybz Kartel, Siren by Buju Banton, Long Time by Bounty Killer, Champagne Pop by Wayne Marshall, As Far As It Can Go by Turbulence, We Nuh Rate Dat by Kip Rich, Bounce To This by Busy Signal and Girls Like This by Bling Dawg among others."

On the UK Singles chart this week, Kanye West and Jamie Foxx were far from strong enough to muscle their way to number one, as they had to settle for a number-two debut with their hit Gold Digger. The Pussy Cat Dolls featuring Busta Rhymes hung on to number one for a third week with Don't Cha. Sean Paul's We Be Burnin slipped one place down to number three. On the UK album chart, David Gray stood firm at the top with Life In Slow Motion."

News: Japanese journalist Minako Ikeshiro writes Di Reggae Book

"The worldwide popularity of reggae/dancehall continues to influence the popular cultures of far away places to the extent that Jamaican music has been imitated and duplicated to the point where at times, is hard pressed distinguishing the authentic 'yard' sound from that of foreign imitation.

One such place is Japan where, for example, there are more ska bands than in Jamaica at this time. In addition the number one international reggae sound is from Japan and not so long ago the number one dancehall queen was Japanese."

News: The Game heads to Jamaica

"A series of events will be held around the Caribbean to kick off MTV's Caribbean channel, Tempo. James Bond Beach in St Mary will be the venue for two days (October 15-16) for the Jamaican launch. Controversial US rapper The Game is among the line-up of acts scheduled to perform at the launch.

Senior vice president and general manager for Tempo, Frederick Morton says that the strength of Jamaica's contribution to the entertainment industry warranted for the two days of celebrations.

"We wanted to pay proper tribute to the genres of Jamaican music, the reggae champions and the legends so we decided to have the launch held over two days. Tempo is about celebrating our culture. It is also to provide a platform for our artistes so that they get seen to the world," Morton said in an interview shortly after he arrived in the island yesterday."

Intro:

Yeh Yeh Sta na na na na woowooooee

Yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh yehh

Ho ha ha ha hi

Chorus:

A seh these are some serious times

All I can see around us is just violence and crime

Let the moon shine through the peaceful night

This is seven times rise

And seven times fall

But I don't really believe in any falling things at all

Verse 1:

Cause life continues as it goes

If you really want to know the truth

Half the truth isn't been told

No no no no no nooo

(repeat chorus)

Verse 2:

Seh! Sometimes you think its peace and safety

It could be a vast sudden destruction

Said when you wake up this morning

You better give thanks

Cause you don't know if you gonna live to see tomorrow

Life is much more precious than gold

Yeh!yeh! and half the truth hasn't been told

So I sey!

News: Bling Dawg barks out a triple X

"BLING DAWG IS UNLEASHING a triple combo: a new rhythm, a new video and a new album for fall.

And as a 'brawta' for the girls, Bling Dawg said he had done some more work on his "summah bady."

Fresh from the U.S., Bling Dawg will release the video for his new song, Holla Out, in two weeks. He describedthe song as "a sex song" and the video features many dancing girls.

The song is featured on the Pitbull Rhythm, which Bling Dawg produced. "Is a Jamaican dancehall ting," he said. "I feel excited, I was away, now I'm back to deal wid mi Jamaican music."

Bling Dawg said that while overseas he began work on a few tracks for his as yet untitled upcoming album. Though he could not give details, he explained that it is a little different from the traditional dancehall album.

The producer for the album, Salm Rimmi, has worked with artistes like Spragga Benz, Rupee, Red Rat, Ghost, Kevin Lyttle, and Nas.

"It was overdue, you know wha a mean, the vibe is nice, Salm is a great producer," remarked Bling Dawg."

News: GYPTIAN'S MANAGEMENT IS upset

"Ravin Wong, the artiste's booking agent, is distressed at what he said is unfair and unscrupulous promotion of his client. Wong said that a number of promoters are advertising the artiste for shows they know nothing about.

"They are putting out his name on a number of posters for shows that we don't know 'bout and we would like to highlight this to the public," Mr. Wong pointed out. "We would like them to stop doing this as it could affect the artiste in the long run."

Wong believes that the false advertising might affect the credibility of the artiste and that fans may regard him as a no-show. He also believes that this may affect the legitimate bookings.

Despite hearing about and seeing such posters, Mr. Wong noted that they have not taken any action to date, but highlighted that after reviewing the nature of the false advertisements, it might be a possibility.

"We don't want to compromise the legitimate bookings, but at the same time we have to highlight the false ones. We don't want to deal with any lawsuit thing right now, therefore we are hoping that we don't have to take the matter a step further.

"To date, I have confronted a promoter in Mandeville, who has Gyptian on his poster as the main act. We have not spoken to or confronted any other promoters, because we only see these posters but don't actually know who is putting on the show," Mr. Wong explained."

The first single, is a duet with Big and Bob Marley called "Hold Ya Head." ** (its actually just two previously released songs from both artists spliced together."

News: New Bob Marley Track Found

"A lost Bob Marley tune, reportedly recorded shortly before his death, is set to be released after it was discovered last year by the reggae legend's son Ziggy on an un-catalogued tape in the family's possession. "Slogans," believed to have been recorded by Marley in a bedroom in Miami in 1979, has since been laced with other instruments and includes Eric Clapton on guitar. The track will be released as both a single and on the compilation, "'Africa Unite: The Singles Collection," due in November. Sources say that the long-lost tape contains 'six or seven' other never-before-released Marley songs, including "Jailbreaker", "Vexation", "Jump Them Out Of Babylon" and "Pray For Me"."

News: Lil' Kim's first days.

"Lil' Kim's first few days in the big house knocked her off her perch in very short order, say inmates at her federal lockup in Philly. First, the hip-hop star was forced to watch in horror as a prison barber took clippers to her long weave, shearing off several pricey extensions - only a day after she'd had her own stylist give her a trim. The result: was an eyesore of uneven locks that made her look like a fashion disaster. Next, several star- struck prisoners pelted her with outrageous questions about her sex life and demanding to know if she's had plastic surgery. Kim was forced to change clothes, and stripped off her Sean John sweat suit and sneakers, swapping them for a drab prison-issue green button-down, short-sleeve shirt, green pants and slippers. Kim was to be assigned a cellmate this week and also given a prison job."

News: Sean Paul nixed big names for young Jamaican producers on 'Trinity.'

"Most musicians would fork over their firstborn to record songs with artists like the Neptunes, producer Scott Storch and Ashanti. Collaborating with such brand names practically guarantees major airplay.
But at this particular point in his career, dance-hall music superstar Sean Paul wanted none of it.

When Paul began recording the follow-up to his 6 million-selling album "Dutty Rock" — the CD most responsible for the recent explosion in modern Caribbean music — his record company encouraged him to work with the aforementioned commercial names.

(The Neptunes he already knew from "Dutty.") But after cutting some demos with the stars, Paul shelved their work, electing instead to work only with young producers from his Jamaican home. That meant edgy guys like Don Corleon, Craig Parks and Rohan Fuller.

At first, Atlantic Records executives "were upset," admits Paul. But, says the singer, "it was very important to me to put the shine back on the kids from Jamaica who inspire me. I wanted to keep it all at home."

You can hear the result on "The Trinity," Paul's third album, in stores today. It both extends the pop/dance-hall style that made Paul a star and mixes in a host of fresh, jittery beats.

Two years ago, Paul's maddeningly catchy brand of island music — heard on smashes like "Get Busy" and "Gimme the Light" — helped change what constitutes pop. While dance hall had been big with aficionados for years — and though xCaribbean stars have enjoyed isolated U.S. hits — Paul's clattering rhythms and raps seem to have altered mainstream xradio in a more significant way.

After he opened the door, a host of xisland artists rushed through, including Kevin Lyttle, Rhianna and reggaeton's Daddy Yankee. Soon, stars like Beyoncé, Janet Jackson and the Black Eyed Peas were picking up island beats as they would the latest fashion accessory.

"For years, I would hear our music played in clubs alongside Jay Z and LL Cool J," says Paul, "and I'd be upset for our genre."

Paul's breakthrough didn't happen without some canny tinkering. Countering dance hall's usual brusque xcadences and brutal beats, Paul's raps have a grace, while his beats have a loping flow. "I try to use more melodies," Paul explains. "And I use English with more clarity. People can hear what I'm saying."

They can also gaze at his good looks, which can be a distraction. "Some people say, ‘His looks have gotten him in that place,'" Paul says. "But I'm coming from a place inside.'"

Paul's lyrics openly play to females, and he's careful to avoid the sexism or xhomophobia of so many dance-hall stars. He also keeps his raps party-hearty — which he credits to his Jamaican heritage. "We don't have Ferris wheels and theme parks and zoos," he says. "There's so much sadness around. So people want to be happy and go to clubs."

Paul did inject one wan song on the CD, "Never Gonna Be the Same," an ode to dead friends. But another, politically minded piece, "Time Rolls On," was nixed by Atlantic for ruining the CD's mood. Paul says he gave in on that small battle because he won the larger one to cut everything with young Jamaicans. "Their grooves are faster," he says. "I hope my records [with them] can again send music in a different direction.""

News: Buju Banton charged with assault - out on bail

Reggae artiste Buju Banton was on Wednesday offered bail in the sum of $50,000 after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault in the night court section of the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

The police alleged that Banton was among a group of men who barged into a house on Carlisle Avenue in Kingston on June 24 last year and beat six men who they accused of being homosexuals.

On Wednesday, the rastafarian entertainer was ordered to report to the Constant Spring Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, between the hours of 6:00 am and 8:00 pm as a condition of his bail.

The case against Buju Banton will come before the court on September 30.

Buju Banton, whose name is Mark Myrie rose to prominence almost 15 years ago with hardcore dancehall lyrics. One of his early hit singles, Boom Bye Bye, drew great criticism from gay rights groups, which claimed the song incited the murder of gay persons. Buju Banton is one of eight dancehall artistes who have come under pressure from gay rights lobby groups in Europe and the United States for their gay-bashing lyrics. In fact, several of these artistes have had a number of their stage shows cancelled as a result of the pressure.

Buju Banton was banned from travelling to the United States for one year after he was found guilty of possession of and cultivation of marijuana in the local courts and ordered to pay a fine of $9,000 or serve 60 days in prison in April last year.

In March this year the travel ban was lifted by the United States Embassy and the singer was given back his visa.

News: S.Q.U.I.S.H. - Wetter is better

"NEITHER THE TORRENTIAL downpour, nor a formidable lightning display could deter party goers from S.Q.U.I.S.H., held at Morgan's Harbour on Sunday. In fact, Mother Nature's showers actually assisted in the party's festivities, and solidified the meaning of the title, 'Sea Quest to Uncover the Inspired, Sophisticated, & High-spirited!'

Those who weren't attired in soaking cloth, threw caution and excess clothing to the wind, literally dancing up a storm in the Sunday evening thunderstorm. Though the event was soca-oriented, selectors did not stick to the format, playing popular genres of hip hop, and dancehall, much to the delight of party patrons.

Held by the BOOM network in collaboration with 'Tribe,' a Trinidadian carnival costume company, the high-class event was also attended by prominent members of society, including C.E.O. and Chairman of Dehring Bunting and Golding, Peter Bunting, and the newly-appointed C.E.O. of Cable & Wireless, Rodney Davis.

"We're not looking for large turnouts at the events, but to lure a core group of what I refer to as the 'innovators' of society," stated the head of BOOM network, André Bello."

News: Technical Woes Fail to Upstage Emagine

"Despite technical problems which delayed the start of Saturday night’s Emagine show at Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain, the event attracted a huge audience.

But the audience somehow seemed to be more mellow and laid-back, instead of the usual soca fanatics.

Just after 11 pm, as the band Atlantik started the introduction for Destra Garcia, the first performer of the night, there was a disturbing feedback from the speakers which affected the music.

Garcia asked the crowd to be patient as the engineers worked on the problem.

About ten minutes later, the soca diva again hit the stage with her popular Up In The Air.

After singing several other songs, the artiste paid tribute to some women in soca as she sampled songs from Faye Ann Lyons, Sanell Dempster, Denise Belfon and the late Onika Bostic.

During her stint, a male member of the audience yelled out to her that there was a tear in the crotch area of her white Capri pants.

Garcia, now conscious and uncomfortable, told the audience she needed to change her outfit and would be back.

With the band still on stage, powerful singer Maximus Dan started his gig.

Living up to his standards, the artiste definitely gave the most energetic performance of the night as he had the crowd jumping and waving.

He sang many of his hits, including Kings of the Land, Soca Train, Strength and Order.

After his performance, which lasted about 30 minutes, Garcia made her way back on stage, starting off her second set with her latest Independent Ladies.

The first Barbadian act for the night was up next. Lal Mirachi, known in the soca arena as Mr DJ, performed Waistline Shots, which was very popular for Crop Over festival in Barbados.

Despite the singer’s hard attempt to please the crowd, he was given a lukewarm reception.

This completed the first half of the show, as it was time for Rupee’s Dot.Com band to set up.

The artiste, who recently released his debut Atlantic album in Japan and the UK, sang many of his popular hits, including Tempted to Touch, Jump, Do The Damn Thing, Yuh Never Know,1 On 1.

Playing the guitar himself, Rupee performed, Woman (I’ll Always Be There), a song in tribute to his late mother.

Rupee, who is always a favourite with the ladies, was almost pulled into the crowd as he greeted female members of the audience.

One even grabbed him in a delicate area.

After almost an hour, it was time for the headline act of the night, Bajan soca diva Allyson Hinds, who had not been on a Trinidad stage since 2002.

Accompanied by her new four-piece band, Hinds whipped out many of her hits, including, In The Name Of Love, Ragamuffin, Aye ye ye and her recent release, Roll It, which she has done remixes with Jamaican singer Elephant Man and American rapper Doug E Fresh."

News: Rupee... Album...and Rumours.

"Barbadian soca artiste Rupee has condemned rumours that he is no longer with Atlantic Records.

“I’ve heard of the rumours...It is not the case, and it is far from the case,” he said during a press conference at Marriott Hotel in Mucurapo, Port-of-Spain, on Friday.

The artiste admitted, however, to being a bit disappointed with the company.

“I have to admit I did feel frustrated that I’ve been with the label so long and the album has not been released in the US.”

The album in debate is the singer’s debut Atlantic release 1 ON 1, which was released in Japan and the UK.

1 ON 1 features the hit single Tempted To Touch, which reigned at No 1 on Billboard’s dance chart for seven consecutive weeks.

The album has sold more than 100,000 copies to date in Japan.

Rupee said the album was doing better in Japan, but it was unfortunate that people based success of an album on the US market.

The Barbadian artiste said other artistes contracted to the label were also being affected, because the company was going through major changes.

He said Leo Colhen, previously of Def Jam Records, was the new president of the Warner Music Group, under which Atlantic fell.

Rupee said several people had been moved around in the organisation. Some were even laid off because Colhen brought in staff from Def Jam.

Craig Kallman, who actually signed the artiste to his five-album deal with Atlantic, was appointed chairman and CEO of the company.

Meanwhile, Rupee said he was not producing a section in Island People Mas.

He said there were initial talks between the mas entity and himself, but nothing materialised because he didn’t have the time to do it.

Rupee said, however, Barbadian band, Baje International, with which he is involved, would produce a section with IslandPeople Mas for C2K6."

News: Jay-Z Declares WAR!

"Jay-Z has a score to settle and the rapper has announced a pair of concerts to express his grievances with rival rappers.

The Hip-Hop megastar announced “I Declare War” as the theme of an October 27 show at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ. The event is in conjunction with Powerhouse, the annual mega concert by New York’s Power 105.1.

At an appearance at the radio station, the Def Jam president revealed that he would address some of the recent critics of his “Carter Administration,” but he didn’t reveal whom he would disrespect.

“I gotta put 'em in the choke hold, the Boston crab,” the rapper told Power 105’s Ed Lover. “I gotta smash a couple of people. Everybody better make up and be my friend."

A second show has been announced at Philadelphia's Wachovia Center show with Power 99, another Clear Channel radio station.

The last time Jay-Z declared war he was embroiled in a long-running feud with Nas and Prodigy of Mobb Deep."

News: Chappelle's Back!

"Dave Chappelle is a complicated man.

Earlier this year, during production of the third season of his hit Comedy Central series, "Chappelle's Show," he walked away from his reported $50 million contract without giving a reason.

Chappelle spent two weeks in South Africa before returning home to his 65-acre farm near Yellow Springs, Ohio, about 75 miles northeast of Cincinnati.

Chappelle, 32, returned to the stand-up stage at the Funny Bone Comedy Club at Newport on the Levee last week. The comedian sold out 10 shows, which concluded Sunday night, at the 325-seat club."

News: Feds Re-Open 1994 Tupac Shakur Shooting Seeking Clues In Rapper's Murder

"The unsolved shooting at Quad Studios in New York in 1994 involving Tupac Shakur has been reopened, anonymous law enforcement officials revealed to AllHipHop.com.

Sources stated the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York has reopened the case to see if the shooting was somehow connected to Shakur's death in 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Shakur was shot 5 times in the lobby of Quad Recording Studios in November of 1994, after being invited to the studio to record.

In December of 1994 Shakur was charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a New York hotel room. Shakur denied the charges but was found guilty and sentenced to prison in February of 1995."
