That does not apply to I Wayne. He brings Reggae back to its essential roots riddims via tranquil vocals on Lava Ground. The Jamaican uses the album's lead single, Can't Satisfy Her to pull listeners in. Then, once he has their attention, he opens up and discusses darker subjects affecting his island, such as crime and poverty."

News: Serius Jones Defeats Jin In AllHipHop/ Fight Klub Event
"The competition was intense, the crowd was raucous, the judges were critical, and the winner was oh so serious- Serius Jones that is.
With a $10, 000 purse on the line, the New Jersey-native defeated Jin, the previous Fight Klub Champion last night in front of a packed house at a special AllHipHop.com-sponsored edition of the bi-weekly event in New York City.
“It wasn’t as hard as I expected it to be,” Jones told AllHipHop.com. The new Monday Night Fight Klub champ, who works under the tutelage of multi-platinum producer Needlez (50 Cent’s “Piggy Bank), was repeatedly accused by Jin of using pre-written verses. "

News: More Kanye West in Toronto Drama
Ok, I've been hearing nuff things about Kanye's recent trip to Toronto and how he has been getting on. Well it seems like thats not the end of it. I posted early the video from his interview at FLOW and how he walked out on them, but now I get this email from Dr. Jay who is Canada's biggest soca DJ letting the world know about Kanye's recent drama at a club he was at in Toronto.
Yes Kanye really does need to humble himself, however I doubt anybody is really going to care about what he's done. Look at what R. Kelly's done and the man still sellin nuff records. In the end when the music is good enough and the US is backing him nobody cares what he did in Toronto.
Them americans probably even laughing at us. He'll probably even come back to Toronto and play a sold out show, because of who he will have with him.
I just say leave the man and let him do his thing... the more we hype up the incident the more publicity he gets.
Anyway's here's Jay's email about the incident. Search my past posts to see the video.
PS... should have picked a better word than kakahole.. :)
--Knockz
------ Can you believe Kanye West?
Okay, I've read interviews with him in magazines and seen his outbursts on TV when he didn't win an award...but this guy gets the "kakahole of the month" award for his behavior at the club this past Sunday night...
to make a long story short, he was hired to be a special guest host at METRO and he apparently gave strict orders that he only wants to hear Hip Hop while he's in the club...
okie dokie buddy...no scene...he doesn't get the award for that cuz in my opinion, if the promoters are paying him a big set of money and are caving into his demands, then you can't blame the artist (no matter how ignorant that it was)...but I can and will blame Kanye for the "kakahole-ish" behavior he displayed...
Lil' Jon, Ludacris, Mos Def and Lil' Scrappy were all inside the club enjoying themselves...this I saw with my own two eyes...those artists and some Toronto Argos, Mo Pete from the Toronto Raptors and a whole set of ladies were in the VIP just chillin....
Then Kanye took the mic and said that he felt disrespected cuz he was in the club for 45 minutes and hadn't heard one of his songs yet...he proceeded to say that he rules the radio and that he will never come back to this establishment again...now mind you, I'm standing just a few feet away from him and this guy just had the most pompous look on his face..
He continues on how he felt disrespected and then the DJ on the other mic tells him that its still early (I think it was around bar closing time) and he has to wait for the tribute...they start to rinse a set of Kanye West tracks but the kakahole grabs his people and exits thru a back door...
None of the other artists seemed to care about his departure and neither did the crowd...perhaps this is all a publicity stunt cuz his album is coming out and any publicity is good publicity, right? For me though, Kanye needs to humble himself and perhaps then people will pay him the respect he feels he deserves...this Sunday, the very first track on SOCA THERAPY will be Maximus Dan's "Be Humble" in honour of the "kakahole of the month". ------

News: Fantan Mojah's Hurting
"Fantan Mojah hates the bad-boy image he has acquired since his performance at Western Consciousness in Westmoreland earlier this year, and says he regrets his behaviour at that show.
That image, he said, cost him a performance on Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest last month and probably a few other shows in Kingston. He is therefore determined to quickly shake loose the perception because it has strained his relationship with the fans he really cares for - those who love God and want to hear the message in his music."

"A new effort using music to help rehabilitate talented prisoners has been designed by the authorities, and incarcerated reggae singer Jah Cure has released the first single under the programme.
The single, True Reflection, was recorded at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, more commonly known as the General Penitentiary. Music industry sources say the song is growing in popularity, an encouraging sign for the Rehabilitation Through Music partners - the police, correctional services and Kingston-based Down Sound Records - who now say their next goal is the recording and release of an album. That set will include four songs by Jah Cure."

In addition to orderly performances from all the billed headline performers, including Bounty Killer, Buju Banton, Sizzla, Capleton, Beenie Man, Assassin, Spragga Benz, Elephant Man and Vybz Kartel, there were early morning surprises from Wayne Wonder and TOK. Ninja Man was a double surprise, as he not only performed briefly but also offered a handshake to Vybz Kartel, which was accepted.
"People a wonder why I am on stage with Beenie Man and Vybz Kartel, after 'Sting'. But this is 'Champions in Action' ...," Ninja Man said, just before the peace gesture. "

News: Degree in Manchester
"FANS FROM MANCHESTER were treated to a musical feast ranging from new artistes to roots reggae and dancehall acts at this year's staging of General Degree's Manchester Fiesta on Saturday night.
Several fans turned out to see their favourite artistes perform at the show which was held at the Kirkvine Sports Club. The show which started over an hour late featured several good performances that had the crowd screaming, shouting and begging for more.
To kick-start the show, several upcoming artistes from the parish got to showcase their lyrical and performing ability when the list of about 12 acts tried to gain the crowd's support, but not all succeeded. Artistes such as Caution, Nicky Culture, Crazy T, Lick Shot and Mr. Steele seemed to be the better of the bunch as their performances earned screams for more from the audience.
Local TRN provided musical back-up for the upcoming artistes and kept the crowd rocking to the rhythms. After a brief band change, the show resumed with the band Live Wyyah behind the instruments. "

News: Mariah vs Eminem
"According to The NY Post, Mariah Carey is angry and hurt that Eminem has been playing private voice-mail messages she left for him in 2001 to audiences of his "Anger Management" tour. During one scene in his show, Eminem is talking to the audience when Carey's song, "We Belong Together," comes on. Eminem berates the deejay and then Carey's messages start to play. "I heard you were getting back with your ex-wife," she says. "Why won't you see me? Why won't you call me? You're not calling me . . ." As the messages play; Eminem pretends to vomit and then launches into his song, "Puke," Friends of Carey say Eminem's anger toward the diva stems from the winter of 2001, when she asked for his help on her Charmbracelet album. Eminem was annoyed when Carey denied that they had an affair but still wrote a song about their relationship for the album. Carey's manager, Benny Medina, said that although Mariahs camp appreciates him as an artist, "Lately his work has seemed tasteless and unnecessarily mean-spirited. The public seems to agree ,just look at his declining record and concert ticket sales.""

News: Huge turnout for 'Unfinished Business'
"WITH THE PROMISE of four major league performers who were not on the bill for last month's Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest 2005, 'Star Jam 2K5 - Unfinished Business' pulled a bumper crowd into Pier 1, Montego Bay, on Saturday night.
When the show was over at 6:10 a.m. on Sunday, of the four, closing performer Bounty Killer had settled the issue of his being left off the Sumfest line-up and addressed Beenie Man sternly, Vybz Kartel had dropped a deluge of lyrics and Fantan Mojah worked an unrehearsed set with the Anger Management Band, which handled all the artiste support duties for the night.
Bounty explained the absence of the fourth at the end of his 50-minute set. "Unfortunately Buju the Gargamel got stuck in Pittsburgh. We couldn't just leave the stage like that," he said.
Movie Star and Allan Ranks were the concert's hosts.
The band took a break after the night's sole female, Lady Champagne, whose "tuck een yu tongue" reply to 'tuck een yu belly' was the solitary spark with the audience in her brief showing."

News: Renaissance Disco Celebrates 16 Years
"THE RENAISSANCE Crew blazed up the Palisadoes Strip with musical madness last Saturday as they celebrated 16 years in style.
Renaissance was joined by hundreds of fans and well wishers as they celebrated their achievement by doing what they do best. They party all night.
Patrons waited in long lines even at minutes after one Sunday morning to get into the venue. And there was no turning back once you hit the Palisadoes Strip and felt the vibes coming from the inside on the wave of blazing music.
ENDLESS PARTYING
On the inside, the bars created another attraction to the patrons who frequented. The all night complimentary Red Stripe was enough for most who drank one cup after the other while dancing as if there were no tomorrow.
The party was swinging even before 1:35 with a number of old school rap music that featured rap moguls Snoop Dogg, BIG and Tupac when the selectors announced that they were still in the early segment and hoped to go until seven Sunday morning.
The proceedings took another turn at about 1:55 and was taken to another level with selections like Buju's Til Shiloh and Sizzla's Praise Ye Jah. The crowd seemed absorbed in the music and many used lighters to show their satisfaction."

News: Rudder Brings Fans to Tears
"David Rudder brought fans to tears at the opening of the first Tobago Gourmet Jazz Festival on Friday night, despite the confusion surrounding his arrival at the venue, Plymouth Recreational Grounds.
For more than three hours, Rudder and his band were left stranded at Grafton Beach Resort, where they had been put up, as show promoters had forgotten to pick them up.
When Rudder, who was scheduled to perform fifth on the show’s line-up of 11 entertainers, arrived, he had already missed his turn.
When he approached the stage, hoping to perform, he was not allowed to do so by the stage manager. Only after the intervention of local officials was the calypso icon allowed to perform last in the line-up.
Rudder performed after international reggae artiste Shaggy.
But the show’s hosts, Adrian Don Mora and Jus Jase, failed to introduce him, and some patrons had already begun to leave the venue, since they thought the show had ended with Shaggy’s performance.
This did not stop Rudder from overwhelming the remaining patrons with his popular hits.
Friday’s show, which began more than an hour late, attracted thousands, but most of the audience were holders of free tickets.
First up was Tobago All Star Jazz Band, followed by several local acts, including Mungal Patasar and Michael Boothman.
The night’s first international act was Angie Stone, who was originally scheduled to perform on Saturday night.
Soca artiste Machel Montano, in his usual exuberant style, had patrons on their feet.
During his performance Shaggy encountered a number of technical difficulties.
Some disgruntled patrons also complained that his performance was mediocre, and that they needed a little less talking from the reggae star, who was accompanied by Rayvon.
Saturday night’s show was clearly more organised, and had an earlier start.
Internationally-renowned soul singer Natalie Cole, who was originally carded to perform last night, wowed fans and produced the first real jazz performance since the start of the festival.
Half-way during her performance, Cole kicked off her shoes and removed a pink rose which adorned her hair, as she got more comfortable with her screaming fans.
Cole, who did an impromptu performance of her hit, “Mr Melody,” surprised both back-up singers and band members who quickly rose to the challenge, delivering a near perfect jazzed up version of the song.
Another international act, Babyface, had the women in the crowd screaming for more.
His performance was very mellow as he sat on a chair, strumming his guitar as he sang his hits.
In attendance were Tourism Minister Howard Chin Lee, Education Minister Hazel Manning, Housing Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Tobago House of Assembly Chief Secretary Orville London.
Organisation of American States education ministers, who attended a conference in Tobago last week, also took in the show. "

News: Fire Fete 2 Review @ Caribana
"Toronto was artistically set ablaze on Caribana Sunday night when the heavily advertised Fire Fete 2 concert came off at the Kool Haus near Lake Ontario in the south of the city. It was a follow-up concert to an event which was totally sold out in its first staging on May 23, so anticipation was understandably high.
There was controversy in the final two weeks preceding the July 31 Fire Fete 2 when KMC and his Red, White & Black Band were dropped from the bill. That entity was replaced by Joey Ng Wai and Imij & Co.
The venue was jam-packed as it is on show night and with little room to even shift around in the Kool Haus, the queues outside were stretched out, curling around the huge entertainment complex. Those fortunate on the inside were anticipating a treat and they got precisely that. From getting off the starting blocks, the action was fiery and formidable at Fire Fete 2.
Denise Belfon was her saucy self and wowed the audience into sigh and gasps of awe as she strutted her eye-popping live act to the total enticement of everyone, particularly the men-folk.
Imij & Co had themselves a long night and productive one at that. With former frontliner Russell Cadogan back in the group, Imij & Co not only showed their musical and vocal versatility, they also provided back-up music for all the live acts. The solo acts included Iwer George, the Hitman and Antiguan Wanski. Soon enough though, the proceedings got to star-time and as the curtains were drawn, the stage erupted with the appearance of the soca industry’s most compelling and energetic entertainer, Machel Montano.
Accompanied by his group Xtatik, Machel had the place like an inferno, typical of a bona fide Fire Fete 2. The capacity turnout, frenetically brandishing national flags of every Caribbean country one can imagine, got “mad” and beside itself with merriment. They were simply ecstatic!
Part of Machel’s plan seemed to make them get “madder than that” as Xtatik’s electric exhibition grew in intensity and excitement.
Xtatik’s repertoire was varied, and the group’s fans were just completely engaging their hearts, minds and time, similar to what occurred at the May 23 Fire Fete 1.
The capacity crowd had its fill of the stellar performers of the night, who very rarely fail to deliver. They most certainly didn’t fail on this occasion.
This writer was debarred from shooting photos on stage by strict security personnel when Xtatik began its live performance. "
News: Another G-Unit Signing?
"Just when you thought the G-Unit signings were over, I’m hearing there is another one on the way. At a recent show at the Tweeter Center at Mansfield, Massachusetts, 50 Cent brought Ma$e on stage and the normally slow-talking rapper spit out “G-G-G-G-UNIT!” Murda Ma$e then walked off. Later during 50's performance, I hear the G-Unit General officially announced that the minister has defected Bad Boy. Word is Mason already has a G-Unit spinner! Ma$e and MOP in the same building? CRAZY! By the way, that 50 Cent video for “Piggy Bank” is insane. The G-Unit graphics dude really bodied the comp on that one. As you can see, 50 made Jadakiss into a Mutant Ninja Turtle, Fat Joe into a boxer, Nas into a superboy, The Game into a Mr. Potatohead and other mini disses are sprinkled throughout the video. Wow."

They should look into putting reviews on their sites of various events or for each flyer allow people to post comments. I don't know about other places but here in toronto there are just some promotors you know NOT to trust and there are some that always come through.
Another idea is to allow me to provide an add on my site pulling from their database that will feature events in the area of the visitor at the time. I'm sure something like this is possible.. but I would use it.

News: Explosion in Trinidad once Again
"A bomb exploded on a busy street in Trinidad's capital Wednesday, sending bystanders fleeing, police and a witness said. There were no reported injuries. Desmond Callandar, a witness, said the blast seemed to come from a large pile of garbage bags on the side of the shop-lined street in downtown Port-of-Spain. People screamed and ran, he said.
The blast just before noon sent garbage flying but caused no damages to the street or surrounding buildings in downtown Port-of-Spain. Police evacuated the street, and a bomb squad was sent to investigate.
Police at the scene confirmed there had been an explosion but declined to provide more details.
The explosion came a month after a bomb exploded inside a trash bin in Port-of-Spain, injuring 14 people, including a woman who lost her leg. No one has been arrested in the blast last month.
The two explosions occurred just three streets apart, blocks away from Parliament. "

News: Capleton and Beenie Man on One Stage
"AS THE SUN rose to light up the Gray's Inn Sports Complex in St Mary on Sunday morning, deejays Capleton and Beenie Man placed the lid on an extremely long, yet entertaining, A St Mary Mi Come From stage show.
The annual event, organised by Capleton, was a roller coaster of action and suspense for the thousands of fans who showed up to celebrate with him. Four years ago seeing the two deejays on the same stage was near impossible, but together they rocked Gray's Inn like a deadly pair of dreadlocked twins.
The show had things going for it, but a few glitches threatened to run it right into the ground."

News: 'MOJAH CHAOS' at Fantans Earth Strong
"AN UNLIKELY MIXTURE of fresh and established acts nearly caused chaos at Fantan Mojah Earth Strong - Hail the King, staged at the Burnt Savannah Sports Complex, St. Elizabeth last Friday.
The format of the show, which saw young acts appearing on stage in between performances by acts such as Anthony B and Bling Dawg was not a welcoming mix and served to drag out the show, which began just after 2 am.
The late start caused an uproar from the crowd who had waited through numerous sound systems playing long sets and a barrage of fresh acts, most of whom were short-changed, untalented bombs rushing the microphone.
The crowd began getting boisterous when, at 2 o clock, it was announced that two more sound systems were scheduled to play."

News: Breathtaking performaces at 'Arrow meets Sparrow'
"THE EVENT was billed as Arrow meets Sparrow, but it was the Calypso Rose among the thorns who really bloomed and pricked soca sensibilities at the Morgan's Harbour Hotel, Port Royal, on Sunday night.
In the beginning, Fab Five turned to soca after circling the island with Jamaican Woman.
"This song is a slow wine," a band member introduced Good Buddy. They followed with the plea for a piece of "sweet Julie mango", Feeling Horny and their first soca hit, Yu Safe. Ringroad Jam and All Night Party brought up 8:00 p.m. - and the night's MC, Bob Clarke.
There were cheers for Leroy Sibbles, who informed musically "we're having a party tonight" and took the ladies on a "sea of love". He started a run of what he called "freedom songs" with I Shall Be Released and included To The Top before pausing to say good evening. Book of Rules was delivered to strong applause, as was the rocksteady style Only Sixteen."

According to Hilderbrand's complaint, he sold $325,000 worth of clothing from February 2001 to February 2002. The Sean John line, he contends, rakes in more than $450 million each year."

News: The Long Life of the 'Cat"
"THEY SAY THAT a cat has nine lives, meaning that it survives many a close encounter of the deadly kind. Whether or not deejay Supercat has the proverbial nine lives remains to be seen, but his long-lasting musical life is a phenomenon in Jamaica.
In a country where deejays come and go with unfailing yet still amazing regularity and those who are not on the latest hot rhythm are often deemed to be on the verge of extinction, it is amazing that Supercat retains this hold on the musical consciousness. And this is even among persons who were not yet of dance going age when the Cat was really ruling the roost with Boops and Mud Up.
Supercat has not had a hit in Jamaica for many years, but two years ago he was the big draw at the now defunct Sashi show in St. Mary. To invoke his name amongst the reggae faithful is to brink a sparkle to the eyes."

News: UB40 in Trinidad
Premier Concerts is expecting to attract a crowd of 10,000 on Sunday at Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, for their first mega concert featuring British reggae band UB40.
The eight-member band will be performing for the first time in Trinidad as part of their world tour to promote their 23rd album, Who You Fighting For.
Members of the media had an opportunity to interface with the promoters and six of the band members at a press conference at the Marriott hotel, Mucurapo yesterday.
Premier Concerts’ public relations officer Melissa Jogie said, “Ticket sales were moving along gradually, but we are anticipating a crowd of 10,000 people.”
The multi-ethnic band, which has sold 15 million records over the last 25 years, has had 50 top 40 singles in the UK, including Red Red Wine, Kingston Town, Here I Am, The Way You Do The Things You Do, and Homely Girl.
Vocalist and guitarist Ali Campbell said UB40 has had staying power over the years because of the friendships among band members
“Most newly formed bands don’t know each other. But we could not re-invent ourselves when we got together, cause we were all friends and knew each other for who we are.”
Their new album which was released on June 13, is political in tone and focuses on the war in Iraq.
“Most of our albums have been political. We have been saying the same thing all these years. We are just more upfront with the lyrics this time,” Campbell said.
In their Very Best of UB40 album, eight of the 18 tracks were remakes of love and reggae songs which appeal to all audiences.
Commenting on the band’s passion for reggae, Campbell said, “back in those days, it was either rock or reggae and we have never been into glam rock.”
“I think that is why we have survived, because we have no real image,” he joked.
The band is expected to perform for one hour and 45 minutes.
News: Red Rat in Trinidad
"It was a night few would forget as thousands of partygoers flocked to the Platinum nightclub over the weekend to hear dancehall heartthrob Wallace Wilson, also known as Red Rat, in concert.
The event was dubbed Battle of the Low Riders. Organised by Bachelor Entertainment, it also featured New York-based DJ Culture Blend, Naya George and soca band Invazion as well as local reggae singer Prophet Benjamin.
First on stage, around 1 am, was Invazion, whose renditions of Carnival 2K5 hits as well as popular dancehall and reggae tunes hyped up the large crowd.
Next up was Prophet Benjamin, whose popularity in the Southland was evident as he belted out tunes from his arsenal, including Pretty Boy, Coming From Moruga and Ganja Shop.
Dressed simply in a white shirt and blue jeans and his head tied with a jersey, Red Rat, who had been out of the limelight for the past two years, created quite a stir when he made his onstage appearance.
The female members of the crowd surged to the front to get a close look at the young singer whose high-pitched voice and slangs of “Oh no!” rocked the dancehall arena for years.
His hour-long stage performance was energetic and had patrons screaming and jumping as he performed a variety of hits, including Tight Up Skirt, Shelly Ann, Bad Mind, and Shake dat Booty Girl.
After the event show promoter Niron Joefield, who was responsible for the first onstage appearance of reggae artiste Marlon Asher, said the event was a success.
“The show was successful. We are about bringing quality entertainment to South and as a new name coming to the scene, I am glad that it had a large crowd turn out.”"
News: Patrons Choose their Queen
"THE JUDGES' DECISION was not final in the case of the 2005 staging of Red Label International Dancehall Queen Competition at Pier One, Montego Bay on Saturday night.
A large number of the 6000 persons, predominantly residents of Montego Bay, revoked the judges' ruling and chose the girl they wanted to wear the crown of International Dancehall Queen.
The judges were overruled when emcee, Jackie Norman, began announcing the top five places at approximately 5 a.m. Some patrons got angry when the western city's finalist was given fourth place. Protests escalated from jeering to a short bottle-throwing stint as the patrons vented their dissatisfaction with the results.
Promoters quickly took control of the situation after pleading with the crowd. When asked if they wanted to hear the rest of the results, there was a resounding "No".
Then came the question, "Do you want to choose the winner from the top five girls?"
The response was a resounding "Yes"."

Both rhythm projects are among the latest from the Robert Livingston-helmed label which has, over the years, generated hits for the likes of Shaggy, Merciless and Bounty Killer.
Ky-enie says he has been working on promotions outside of Jamaica to build a vibe before concentrating on the local market. He is quoted by Britain's Zoo magazine as saying: "I just talked to a gentleman called Jimmy who's involved with Jenna Jameson. They said they were interested in getting me involved in the adult film industry . "I need the money up front."

And when they read the lyrics -- essentially middle school locker humor that rhymes -- the fledgling alliance with Slim Shady crumbled. O'Neal signed a $100 million, 5-year contract with the Miami Heat on Tuesday, a deal that gives the 12-time All-Star center added financial security while allowing his team salary flexibility to pursue other players.
He'll make $20 million in each of the next five seasons in an agreement believed to include incentives. He was to have earned $30.6 million this coming season, but opted out of that deal for a longer-term pact with less money annually."

News: The Game in The U.K.
"The Game is scheduled to visit Buckingham Palace in London. Game reportedly wanted to visit the palace because he's a fan of the Queen of England's jewelry. Apparently, Game requested a personal invite to tour the palace. The Compton emcee was granted permission after Prince Harry, who is a fan of Game's music, made a personal request to authorize the visit. Game is presently in the midst of a series of U.K. concerts. A recent date at the Manchester Apollo turned ugly when a fan shouted "50 Cent" and "G-Unit" while Game was onstage. Game reportedly stepped to the fan and spit in his face. The fan then tried to climb up the stage to retaliate, but was grabbed by security and thrown out."
