Reggae vs. Soca Round 1

In a recent interview in VIBE magazine I Wayne clearly exposed his view on soca music which has gotten the soca community all heated.

Here is part of the interview.

"Unfortunately, the success of Rupee and Lyttle has become both a gift and a curse. With the reggae pendulum swinging back toward one-drop reggae, on the strength of rootsy anthems by Richie Stephens and I Wayne, a clear line has been drawn in the sands of the Caribbean. The reggae purists are no longer playing nice with the soca contingent. “That is devil dancing,” says the Rasta representative I Wayne. “It’s dancing with the demons. That’s why I try to wake up the people and show them some message within the music.” But Rupee argues that soca is more than the sounds of sin. “Our music is a happy music,” he counters. “It’s about dancing and forgetting your worries and problems.”

Now one of the biggest soca artist in Trinidad, Bunji Garlin, recorded a song in response to this comment.

Do we really need to hype this up so much?  Do we really care so much about what I Wayne thinks about soca?  I don't even think its worth all this drama. One thing it will probably do is help to promote soca even more.

New Music in de Inbox

Every now and then I get new music sent to me via email from various artists and I LOVE getting things from new artists. There is a lot more out there than what you hear on the commercial radio.

Recently I recieved these from an artist called Mikayla. She sent two tracks. You can listen to them by clicking on the links below. The first is http://www.sensimedia.net/. I ran a live radio show there weekly for a few years until my schedule got busy. But its a great place to listen to streaming music all day long. Check it out now.

The next has a bit of a story to it. One of my favorite stations was WEFM 96.1 out of Trinidad. You just had to listen to this station on a friday and saturday to get ready to go out to PARTY! However they stopped streaming the station and I couldn't listen to them. What I heard though is for some reason most the dj's have left 96.1 and have moved over to 96.7 which is now streaming on the net and all I can say is WOW!!!!!!

This is my new favorite station. Tune in and listen. (For some reason clicking on their link doesn't work so copy the link and paste it into windows media player.)

If anyone has info as to what happened to the 96.1 station feel free to comment on this post and let us all know.

Its ALIVE!!!!

Well this is it. Finally got the site back up and running.

After some trouble with my ISP (Bluedomino.com) they cancelled my account as the original people that owned it sold the company and the new company didn’t want to host me, even though I was paying. It doesn’t make sense but I don’t bother with it and just move on.

So here we go. New host. New site. New blog. Let’s se how it goes.

Huh? What? What’s a blog you ask? The easiest way to explain it is it’s an easy way to post updates to the site. If you really want more info you can search it up on google. But look for more updates on the site with various things.

So check back frequently. And feel free to contact me whenever on email. knockz@djknockz.com. Send me your promo’s and I’ll post it up on here for you as I update my blog.
