News: Rudder and Bunji Collaborate

Unlikely as it may seem to purists on either side of the imaginary divide, triple-crown winner David Rudder has teamed up with three-time International Soca Monarch Bunji Garlin to produce the single Sheila from the soundtrack of the musical The Brand New Lucky Diamond Horseshoe Club, which is set to premiere at Queen's Hall next February 7.

Concerned that some of the more studied pieces in the 21-song musical might be trampled in the clutter historically associated with Carnival seasons as short as next year's, producers David Rudder and Tony Hall decided to release the curtain-raiser next weekend to DJs and radio stations as a taste of things yet to come.

Riding the Lucky Diamond Riddim, constructed by Hall's son, Kekere, Sheila is currently getting its final touches in Toronto, with additional keyboard sweeteners being added by Rudder's musical director, Jeremy Ledbetter. In addition to Garlin and Rudder, the latter's son, Khafra is also on the single.
