News: Sparrow Honoured in New York
"Today (Wednesday 14 September), The Mighty Sparrow will be honoured by New York City Comptroller, William C Thompson at the annual Caribbean Heritage celebration.
At the event which will be held at the New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn, Sparrow will receive the Creative Artist Image Award.
Tribute will also be paid to six city leaders: Rennie Bishop, programme director of radio station WWRL; Florence Bonhomme Comeau, owner and manager of Interlink Translation Services, Brooklyn; Barbara M. Foster, president of F&R Installers Corp, Brooklyn; Howard W Bradnock MD, Chief of Gastroenterology at St Vincent Catholic Medical Centres Brooklyn and Queen’s Division; Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado, executive director of the Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Centre and Thomasine Watson Smith, delegate director of Catholic charities/builders for family and Youth Early Childhood Programmes.
The event will be co-sponsored by the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Caribbean Women’s Health Association, the Caribbean American Centre of New York and the West Indian American Day Carnival Association. "
