News: Explosion in Trinidad once Again

"A bomb exploded on a busy street in Trinidad's capital Wednesday, sending bystanders fleeing, police and a witness said. There were no reported injuries.

Desmond Callandar, a witness, said the blast seemed to come from a large pile of garbage bags on the side of the shop-lined street in downtown Port-of-Spain. People screamed and ran, he said.

The blast just before noon sent garbage flying but caused no damages to the street or surrounding buildings in downtown Port-of-Spain. Police evacuated the street, and a bomb squad was sent to investigate.

Police at the scene confirmed there had been an explosion but declined to provide more details.

The explosion came a month after a bomb exploded inside a trash bin in Port-of-Spain, injuring 14 people, including a woman who lost her leg. No one has been arrested in the blast last month.

The two explosions occurred just three streets apart, blocks away from Parliament. "
